Heidrich ’11 and Adamsson ’11 Remain Perfect in Doubles

Led by another standout performance from captain Peter Heidrich ’11, Andover Boys Tennis cruised to their fifth straight win of the season, beating Nobles and Greenough 11-3 in ISL (Independent School League) scoring. This fifth win has kept the team undefeated.

Heidrich won his fourth straight singles match this season, taking the sets 6-4, 6-3. At #4, James Heaney ’14 continued his domination as a freshman, winning the sets in a 6-3, 6-2 win. In his first non-exhibition singles match of the year, Malachi Price ’13 added to the sweeps, as he won his match at #6 in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. He commented on the match, saying, “It really was an amazing experience to play on Varsity A. All of the hard work that I have put in over the week and the summer really came together in my match. I can’t wait for the weekend.”

The players in the other three singles matches split the sets. Alasdair McClintic ’13, playing in the place of Michael Kontaxis ’11, won the first set of his match 6-2, but lost 8-6 in a tiebreaker. Co-captain Mark Adamsson ’11, playing at #2, lost the first set 6-4 but rebounded in the second with a 6-3 victory. Finally, at #5, Hunter Schlacks ’11 lost the first set 3-6 but beat his opponent 6-4 in the second.

Andover breezed by its Nobles opponents in the doubles matches. Andover guaranteed the victory after two doubles matches, so Schlacks and McClintic didn’t even play their match. Price and Heaney played outstanding tennis throughout their match, winning in an 8-5 decision at #3 doubles. Heidrich and Adamsson, the vaunted #1 doubles team, won their match 8-4, keeping their undefeated record in doubles matches intact.

McClintic thought that the victory was hard-fought, as he said, “The match was a very tough one, but we all played well. Since the score was based on set and none of us lost, the final score is quite inflated because we all had tough matches. That was a good test of our abilities and we came through this match very well.”

Andover hosts their first home match against Roxbury Latin on Friday and face Deerfield on the road on Saturday.
