Andover Keeps the Streak Alive; Heidrich ’11 Continues to Dominate

Co-captains Peter Heidrich ‘11 and Mark Adamsson ‘11 led Andover Boys Tennis in a 7-0 sweep over Andover High.

AHS was no match for Andover’s vaunted lineup. At the #1, Heidrich dominated once more, with a 10-2 win. Adamsson overcame his Andover High counterpart in methodical fashion, winning 10-6. The two co-captains teamed up again and won 8-4 at #1 doubles, remaining undefeated on the year.

According to Heidrich, this match was a strong indicator for their chances at New Englands. He said, “We really showcased an all-around performance on Friday. Everyone stepped up, and we need to play this well if we want to win at New Englands.”

Two weeks ago, Andover beat some strong competition in Roxbury Latin and Deerfield. The team came through with a strong 4-3 over Roxbury Latin at home. In doubles, Co-captains Heidrich and Adamsson won 8-3 in #1 doubles, while the team of Kontaxis and Heaney won their match at #3 doubles, 8-5. Heidrich avenged a loss from last year, beating the #1 from Latin in straight sets while Adamsson swept his matches on the day with a superb 6-3, 6-2 win over Latin’s #2 player.

Coach Wilkin said, “This is a very deep team with excellent skill up and down their ladder. [It was] a hard won victory [for] Andover.”

The same day that Andover defeated Roxbury Latin, the team demolished Deerfield 5-2 in an away match. Andover also beat St. Paul’s 6-1 on Wednesday. The team’s strong performance the past two weeks has stretched its record to 8-0, its longest winning streak in the past five years.

This Saturday, Andover heads to Choate for a last test before New Englands, which is next Saturday.
