In the final match of the day against St. Paul’s, Andrew Chan ’08 played flawlessly to secure the Boys Tennis team a 4-3 victory. At second doubles, Tony Zou ’09 and Jin Won Lee ’08 lost to the St. Paul’s top two players by a score of 8-4. This left Chris Kim ’08 and Asa Harrington ’09 to take on the number three doubles team. Despite the pair’s forceful groundstrokes, they lost a challenging match 8-1. At the number one spot, Captain Foster Jebsen ’08 and Andrew Chan ’08 played a close match until the score reached 7-5 in favor of Andover. However, the match was then called off, as St. Paul’s secured the doubles point with victories at number two and three. Heading into the singles matches, Andover needed four out of the six matches to win. Meyer went out determined at the number one spot and delivered a stellar performance. He claimed a dominating 6-2, 6-1 victory despite his sore elbow. At number two singles, Captain Jebsen easily defeated his St. Paul’s opponent in two straight sets: 6-1, 6-1. Zou, playing at the number four spot for Andover suffered his first loss of the season. Lee, Andover’s number five seed, came back strong against St. Paul’s after losing his first set. He was victorious in a hard-fought tiebreaker, winning with a final score of 10-6. At the number six spot Kim labored, playing long points against a very skilled player. He couldn’t manage a win, and lost his singles match 6-2, 6-4. This left it all up to the remaining player, Chan, at the number three spot. Chan’s exceptional play under pressure helped him gain the crucial point to secure the team victory.
