Last weekend, Boys Tennis faced a blast from the past. Ousmane Diop, a former member of the Andover tennis team, brought his team from Roxbury Latin to face off against Andover on Friday. “We played strong, confident tennis against Roxbury Latin,” said Coach Wilkin. The doubles team of Mark Adamsson ’11 and Michael Kontaxis ’11 dominated their game from the start, ending with a score of 8-1. Hunter Schlacks ’11 and Myles O’Neil ’12 also won their match, 8-5. Up first for singles was Captain Trey Meyer ’09 who won 6-3 and 6-0. Next, Schlacks claimed a victory at third on the ladder for Andover winning 6-3, 6-3. Max Png ’10 finished off the match for Andover, defeating his opponent 6-2, 6-0. At the end of the day, Andover won 4-0 combined. With this win, Andover improved its record to 6-0 and prepared to face Deerfield on Saturday. Deerfield, however, came out ready and won the top two doubles matches with tricky net play. “We played our worst doubles of the season, and that really hurt us,” said Coach Wilkin. After the doubles loss, Andover’s chances of winning would be determined by the results of the singles matches. Schlacks and Tony Zou ’09 both lost their matches, meaning Andover would have to win all of the singles matches to overcome Deerfield. Meyer uplifted the team by winning his match 6-2, 6-1, and Kontaxis and Adamsson both won their matches, leaving the pressure on Png. Png lost the first set in a tie breaker, but managed to make a comeback in the second set. Png, however, could not pull away with a win, giving Deerfield the victory. On Wednesday, Andover faced Exeter for one of the most anticipated matches of the season. For the past six years, Andover has won 10 games and only lost 1 to Exeter. Meyer and Adamsson both played well in their doubles match, making no errors and dominating 8-0. Meyer again dominated in his singles winning 6-2, 6-0. Schlacks proved to be the highlight of the day, shutting out his opponent 6-0, 6-0. Andover defeated Exeter with a final score of 7-0.
