In the last match of his Andover career, seventh seed Will Yun ’20 struggled against a difficult opponent in the early stages of his match but was able to fight back and eventually win in four games. Andover ended up winning 7-0 against Phillips Exeter Academy, bringing its record to 12-3.
After sweeping Exeter previously this season, Andover came into its match confident in its ability to beat its opponents, but there was still competition in the bottom of the ladder, according to Head Coach John Roberts, Siddhant Sinha ’21, and Cody Comyns ’23.
Sinha said, “We were quite confident. We came in beating them 7-0 last time so all of us came in looking forward to the matches and we came in looking for the victory.”
“At the top it wasn’t as much of a battle as it was at the bottom of the ladder,” said Comyns.
Andover brought a lot of energy to the court to support its three seniors in their final home match, according to Erik Wang ’21 and Roberts.
“We did a great job playing today. We were all really excited since it was Senior Day for us. Three of the guys on our team are Seniors. We played really well, we played great squash and it was a great way to wrap up the season,” said Wang.
Roberts added, “The guys were pumped up for the match as it was our three Seniors last home game at [Andover]. Everyone wanted them to get one last win against Exeter which is always nice.”
According to Comyns, Andover’s win against Exeter gave it the confidence and practice to feel prepared for Nepsacs.
“It was nice to get a 7-0 win before Nepsacs just for confidence among other things. We’re going to face really hard opponents but we’re looking to perform well and hopefully win some matches at Nepsacs,” said Comyns.
Sinha continued, “It’s always good to get some game practice, but we’re also fresh for Nepsacs and getting rid of the nerves is helpful for the team going into a big tournament.”
Andover, entering as the seventh seed, looks to place well at Nepsacs at Deerfield this weekend.
