Shenk ’11 Throws Name Into Record Books

Led by record-breaking performances from Co-captain Malcolm Mason-Rodriguez ’11 and Co-captain Aniebiet Abasi ’11, Andover Track and Field defeated NMH on April 30th with a 91-49 win for the boys and a 90-55 victory on the girls side.

Rodriguez ’11 set a new school record in the 100m with an incredible 10.7 seconds and another record in his 48 foot 3 inch triple jump performance. Abasi broke the 200m in a speedy 25.7 seconds.

The momentum from the victory over NMH carried over into the next meet against NMH and Loomis last Saturday, as the boys took first with 87 points, while the girls placed first with 98 points, trouncing second place Loomis who finished with only 46 points. More broken records propelled the boys to victory, as Rodriguez beat his own triple jump from the previous NMH meet with a 48 foot 5.5 inch performance. Rodriguez also took first in the 110m hurdles in 16.3 seconds, and the long jump with a 23 foot, 2.75 inch jump.

Co-captain Patrick Wolber ’11 won both the 800m and the 1500m with times of 2:01.1 and 4:09.8 respectively, while Earl Graves ’11 placed first with a 6 foot 4 inch high jump. James Casselberry ’11 took first place in the discus with a throw of 123 feet 8 inches, while Brendan Rankowitz ’11 earned first with a 166 foot 11 inch javelin throw.

For the girls, Jamie Shenk ’12 set an upper class record in the javelin with a 121 foot 3 inch throw. Kemi Amurawaiye ’11 took second place in the javelin and the high jump, while Abasi took first place in the 200M with a time of 25.9 seconds. Alexis Walker ’13 placed first in the 100m with a 12.5 seconds and the long jump with a 16 foot 10 inch jump.

Kate Bulger ’11 dominated the long distance events, finishing first in the 1500m with a 5:04.3 and winning the 300m in 11:15.9. Chioma Ngwudo ’11 and Minymoh Anelone ’12 took first and second in the shot put with throws of 32 feet 9.5 inches and 32 feet .75 inches respectively.

The team captured a third straight victory this past Wednesday beating Cushing and Pingree with scores of 129 from the boys and 127 from the girls.

Rodriguez won the triple jump with a 46 foot 10 inch performance and the long jump with a 22 foot 11 inch jump. He also took first place in the 110M hurdles finishing in 16.5 seconds. Wolber swept the 800 and 1500 with times of 1.58.2 and 4.07.55. Jack Ward ’13 grabbed first in the shot put with a 44 foot 10 inch throw a 44 foot 10 inch throw and 2nd place in the boys discus behind James Cassellberry ’11 who won with a 138 foot 5 inch throw. Jonathan Arone ’14 set a Junior class record with a 23.8 second run in the 200m.

Abasi won the 200m in 27.59 seconds, while McKenzie pulled in second at 28.27. The tables turned in the 400m, as McKenzie took first place and Abasi placed. Kemi Amurawaiye ’11 won the high jump, javelin, and triple jump, while Anelone came in first place for the shot put. Kate Bulger ran to victory in the 800m and 1500m, with times of 2.27.28 and 5.04.12 respectively. Diana Tchadi ’14 took first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 19.59 seconds.

Andover’s will compete at Interschols next Saturday.
