Dominates Worcester, Four Named All-Stars

At the New England Prep School Fall Girls Volleyball Association All-Star Tournament and against Worcester on Saturday, the Andover Girls Varsity Volleyball team once again proved itself deserving of its first-in-league position. All four of Andover’s tournament players were named to the Boston Globe All-Star Team, and Andover dominated over Worcester with an easy 3-0 victory to remain undefeated. Andover was able to send four representatives to the All-Star game because it was sitting atop the league. The 40 girls from around New England that attended were split up into four teams (all of the Andover players were placed on opposing teams). Then each team played all of the other teams once during the first round. After that, the two top teams competed in the finals. Price’s team matched up against Thomas’ team for the championship but ultimately lost by two points. While all of this was going on, the coaches walked around the floor, eventually deciding the Boston Globe All-Stars. All four of the women from Andover made the Boston Globe All-Star Team. On Wednesday, Andover dominated Worcester Academy in a scrimmage. Having only won one game all year, Worcester was not much of an adversary. The first game was actually closer than expected against. Without much competition, said Price, “it’s hard to raise your game up.” The highlight of the match came from Levin at the beginning of the second game when she served up the first 16 points of the match to propel Andover to an early 15-1 lead. Andover, despite strong efforts by Worcester in both games to come back, won easily 3-0. During the match, Andover was able to go to its bench and play the second team a great deal. The next two games were won easily, giving Andover the easy 3-0 victory. The only team still remaining which can throw Andover off of its undefeated season is Exeter whom Andover will again take on this Saturday. Andover soundly defeated Exeter in mid-October by a score of 3-0.
