Track Falls In Tri-Meet

Andover Track was missing several key contributors and struggled in a tri-meet with Exeter and St. Paul’s this weekend. The boys team, which entered the meet with a 2-0 record, totaled only 31 points, losing to St. Paul’s by two points and falling to Exeter by 84 points. The girls remained winless, but improved upon their finish against Taft and Deerfield a week before. Matt Fischetti ’14, who had three first-place finishes in the meet at Taft, missed the meet, and Brandon Girard ’16 only competed in the 400m race. The two runners normally make up half of the relay team, which finished last this Saturday. Andover won only four events this week, a number dwarfed by the 11 first-place finishes in the team’s first meet and the seven first-place finishes in its second meet. Justin Aimonetti ’13, who won the shot-put, noted that Exeter’s team was extremely skilled. “Exeter is probably the best squad we are going to face all year,” said Aimonetti. “They have some great throwers, and on Saturday they were just more prepared and they had better depth. We’re missing a lot of our upperclassmen,” The girls were also unable to pull out a win. Charlie Jarvis ’15 and Co-Captain Becca Wagman ’13 were sidelined with injuries. Camille Little ’16 continued her success, winning the 100m and 200m race, and Caroline Shipley ’16 won the 400m race for the second straight week. Diana Tchadi ’14 won the 300m hurdles. Anoush Shehadeh ’15 won the 1500m, and Peyton McGovern ’16 placed first in the 3000m. McGovern also placed second behind Shehadeh in the 1500m. Shipley expressed her concern about the health of the girls team. “Like last week, we were missing a lot of our top runners. We really need to get healthy if we want to succeed. That is our top goal right now,” said Shipley. Aimonetti also had a few suggestions as to how the boys can bounce back from this setback. “We have a bye this week, so we have more practice time to work on our technique,” said Aimonetti. “Exeter was just more technically sound. Also, we need to try to define our personal records because we are still inconsistent. Once we realize our potential, we can shoot higher and hopefully win more points for the team.” With the extra practice time, Andover Track should be able to rest up, get healthy and refine its skills before they face off against Loomis a week from Saturday.
