Athlete of the Week: Lizzie Paul 12′ – Girls Lacrosse

As a leading scorer for Andover, Lizzie Paul ’12 has been terrorizing goalies. Her six goal performance against NMH on Wednesday propelled the team to a 18-14 win. Her efforts earned her this week’s Athlete of the Week honor.

Q: When did you start playing lacrosse?

A: My dad tried to teach me to cradle before he taught me to walk, but I joined a real team for the first time in third grade.

Q: What are your goals for the season?

A: As a team, we have improved a ton on defense and transition, which I think we can continue to work on. Individually, I want to improve my first step and creativity on attack, as well as my cuts on transition plays. And I want to be able to ride my scooter up the hill to the turf without my thigh burning.

Q: Why do you guys call yourselves “Aces?”

A: We call ourselves Aces because we’re going to the show.

Q: What is your favorite team tradition?

A: Before games, we walk out onto the turf in two lines without talking. I like this because it helps us go from listening to music in the locker room to getting focused and into a good mindset right before the game.

Q: Why the number 9?

A: When I started at Andover I wanted number 8, but Kellie [Walsh ’11] already had it. So I figured 9 was the next closest thing. But Kitten Sherril had that…so then I took number ten last year and switched down to 9 this year so it could match my field hockey number. Basically it has little to none significance to me, except that its close to the number 8.

Q: The best lacrosse players wear…

A: Ankle socks (shout out to my girl Greer [McBeth ’12]), prewrap, nike turf dogzz and Zebra Print Friday.

Q: What is the most annoying thing the boys do when you guys split the turf?

A: When they give our players concussions for hitting them in the back of the head with bad passes. Here we go boys.
