Girls Track Triumphs in Tri-meet, Falls to Andover High In Scrimage

This past week, the Andover Girls Track team improved steadily. In Saturday’s Quad meet, NMH, St. Pauls, and Milton all came to Andover in the largest meet of the season. The Andover 4x100m Relay team scored maximum points to start off the meet, winning the first relay by over a second. This big win set a standard that the rest of the girls upheld through the meet. Lissy Robie ’04 got the girls rolling in good fashion in the 1500m run. The girls Captain crossed the line in third place, against some of the fastest distance runners in the league, with a time of 5:08. Robie returned to take third place in the 800m run. Cassie Tognoni ’05 and Marty Schnure ’06 took first and second in both the 300m hurdles and the 100m hurdles, respectively. Tognoni won both events with her 100m hurdles time of 17.2 seconds and her 300m hurdles time at 49.9 seconds, and Schnure followed close behind in 17.4 and 52.2, respectively. Sonia DeYoung ’04 and Annie Wilkin ’05 placed first and second in the 100m dash with times of 12.9 and 13.2 seconds, respectively. Rosie DuPont ’06 ran well in the 400m run, where she managed to wedge herself between two competitors to take second place with a time of 1:07.8. Abby King ’07 took second in the 3000m after an impressive kick to the finish to out-lean her opponent on the line. Jenn Meacham ’06 won the Javelin by almost 9 feet with an impressive hurl of 91’2”. In the discus throw, Aba Temeng ’06 notched a first place into the score sheet with a throw of 91’2”. Andover managed two second places in both the long jump and the high jump. Tognoni launched herself over the bar for a height of 4’8”, high enough to secure second place. Andover’s dominating performance in the 4x400m relay fully represented the final results of the meet, with Andover claiming the victory by over three seconds. In the final standings Andover beat all three teams, scoring 102 points to NMH’s 83.5 points, Milton’s 53 points, and Saint Paul’s 15.5 points. On Wednesday the girls traveled to the track of hometown rivals Andover High School for a scrimmage competition. Andover won both the mile and the 800m run with Robie and Becca Howe ’06 claiming victory in their respective races. Andover’s DeYoung ran the 100m dash in 13.3 seconds. In her first 300m hurdle race, Dupont clocked a 57.3 seconds, an impressive first race time. In the 100m hurdles Tongnoni, Schunre, and new hurdler Mgbechi Erondu ‘06 all ran well crossing the line with times of 17.8, 18.4 and 18 .4 seconds respectively. Tognoni went on to get 4’10” in the high jump, two inches higher than earlier in the week.
