Tennis Boasted Undefeated Season But Lost Three out of Five Top Players

After an undefeated season last year and a strong showing at the New England tourna- ment, Andover Girls Tennis will rely on a deep and experienced group of five returning players. The team is poised for a run at the New England championship.

Andover lost three of its five top players, but still retains many crucial returners. A key player for Andover is Kather- ine Lee ’13, who has been near the top of the ladder since her freshmen year and is extremely consis- tent, getting to every ball across the court.

Another strong return- er for Andover will be Charlotte Aaron ’14. Aar- on hopes to improve on finishing this season. She sets up the point really well, but she plans to fo- cus some of her attention on executing winning shots to put games away. She’s especially looking forward to doubles. “I love playing doubles.

It’s always fun to have someone to talk to on the court considering tennis is such an independent sport,” said Aaron.

Another crucial returner for Andover will be Borkney Sambou ’12. Sambou will likely team up with MJ Engel ’13 for doubles. The pair ap- pears promising as they have played together, know each other’s ten- dencies, and are very competitive.

“I’m most looking forward to New England’s because we’ve gotten very far in the tourna- ment the past two years, and the strong additions to the team this year may give us the edge to win,” said Engel.

After making the team as a freshman last year, Katherine Tobeason ’14 has another hopeful spring season ahead.
Mackenzie Strabala ’13 will be another crucial player for Andover, with her consistency strong hits. She puts a lot of power behind her hits and her ground strokes, and also has really good
angles on her approach shots.

“I definitely think our team will have a great season this year. It may be a challenge at first, but we have some great fresh- man joining the team and a lot of the return- ing girls have gotten a lot better. It is pretty hard to tell right now which players are the strongest due to all the wind we have had, but by the end of this week hopefully we will have a solid line up,” added Aaron.
Newcomers to the team include Campbell Howe ’14 and Camille Price ’15. Price is an ex- tremely strong all around player who will have an immediate impact on the team. Both Howe and Price have promising fu- tures in Andover’s tennis program.

Andover will take on Buckingham Brown and Nichols in its first matches next Wednesday.
