Rollercoaster Weekend Ends 2-0 and 0-2

Katie Kreider ’14 dribbled down the field to the end line in the middle of the second half, slotting the ball back across the top of the six-yard box to teammate Alex Thomas ’15, who fired a shot past the BB&N goalie to solidify Andover’s 2-0 win.

Thomas scored the first goal as well off an assist from Co-Captain Hannah Guzzi ’14. After a break away, Guzzi passed the ball to Thomas, who scored despite being stormed by three defenders.

Hungry for a win, Andover went into Friday’s game ready to play fast and control the ball.

“We played really well and as a team. We did a good job of playing to feet against BB&N and not letting their over-aggressiveness get to us,” said Kreider, “We worked hard, fought throughout the entire game and problem-solved well when things didn’t go our way.”

Andover’s defense held BB&N to limited scoring chances. The backbone of the defense was Antonia Tammaro ’17, playing her first career game as a goalie, as she posted a shutout and made key diving saves.

“The team played very well as a unit. We stayed composed and were really supportive towards each other,” said Tammaro.

Towards the end of the game, BB&N was desperate for a goal and became very physical, but Andover stayed composed and finished the game to celebrate its second win of the season.

On Saturday, Andover traveled down to Tabor and suffered a 0-2 loss.

In the first half, a Tabor player took a shot from the 18-yard box that soared into the top right corner that gave Tabor a 1-0 lead.

Although Andover’s play improved in the second half, the team was unable to find the back of the net. Midfielders Sarah Humes ’16 and Kreider did a great job of sending the ball over the Tabor defense to Thomas and Guzzi, but Andover was unable to capitalize on its scoring chances.

Tabor scored once again in the second half to take a 2-0 lead and the victory.

“We hoped to pull away with a [win], but I am proud of the team regardless of the 2-0 loss. We’ll work even harder this week during practice for our next game this coming Saturday,” said Caroline Garrity ’15.

Andover will face an undefeated Choate team at home on Saturday night.
