Girls Water Polo

Andover Girls Water Polo’s six-game winning streak came to a close on Saturday after the team fell in a heartbreaking 8-7 loss to number two NEPSAC seed Hopkins.

While Co-Captain Kait Simpson ’14 continued her scoring barrage with four goals, Andover was limited by ejections. Down a few players, Andover fell behind by three goals and never recovered offensively. The team relied on its defense to keep it in the game.

Sasha Newton ’16, Soubie Im ’15 and Morgan Rooney ’17 scored in the loss.

Before Andover fell to Hopkins, the team defeated Deerfield 13-5 earlier on Saturday. Michaela Hagler ’16 and Anna Dear ’16 netted their first career goals in the win.

The victory marked Andover Girls’ Water Polo’s sixth consecutive victory in the past month.

Simpson continued her scoring barrage with six goals of her own. Newton added three goals to Andover’s tally.

Jen Powers ’14 held down the fort at Goalie, limiting Deerfield to five goals. ¨Jen had some stellar blocks, and she held Deerfield scoreless after the first quarter,¨ said Simpson.

Andover will compete in the NEPSAC Girls Water Polo Championships today. The team will look to avenge its loss to Hopkins and better its second-place finish from last season.
