Led by first-place finishes in the one mile run from Patrick Wolber ’11 and Kate Bulger ’11, Andover Boys and Girls Indoor Track overwhelmed the Governers squad, as the boys dominated in a 69- 17 victory while the girls took an 84-11 win. “It was a great meet overall. Everyone worked hard, many athletes set personal bests, and our depth ultimately won the meet for us,” said Hemang Kaul ’13. Andover utilized their advantage in numbers from the start of the meet, as the squad easily swept the one mile with Wolber taking first at a fast 4:35.5. Bulger followed up in the girls one mile, capturing first with a time of 5:42.1, not far in front of Kelsey Jamieson ’12 and Claire Harmange ’11. Next, Joe Kruy ’12 continued Andover’s domination in the 50 yard hurdles, finishing first at 7.11 seconds. Diana Tchadi ’14 won the girls hurdles with a time of 8.9 seconds. In the 50 yard dash, Mike Garai ’13 took a convincing victory at 6.1 seconds in a strong heat of Andover runners that also featured Brandon Wright ’11 and James Lim ’12. After running the one mile, Wolber competed in the 600 yard dash, leading the pack with a finish of 1:18.7, and followed not far behind by Kevin Fung ’13. For the girls 600 yard dash, Jasmine Edison ’11 finished with a strong 1:37.4 In the girls 2 mile run, Bulger raced again and captured first at 12:07.0, with Jamieson coming in a close second. This victory paved the way for the boys 300 yard dash, where Mike Garai led a sweep of Governor’s, with a quick time of 37.07. Lim battled through a nasty cramp to finish close behind Garai at 37.75. On the girls side, Becca Wagman ’13 started another Andover sweep, taking first in an impressive 42.85. To cap off a stellar Andover performance in the individual running events, Ben Talarico ’11 held off a challenging Governors runner in the 1000 yards to win at 2:55.0, and Harmange took first in the girls 1000 at 3:16.0. In the field events, Kruy placed first in the boys shot put with an incredible throw of 45 feet, and Chioma Ngwudo ’11 threw a 34’3’’ to win on the girls side. Lim rounded out his successful meet with a victory in the long jump, with a leap of 17’7.25”. Despite tough losses in the girls long jump and boys high jump, Andover bounced back with a victory by Kemi Amurawaiye ’11 in the girls high jump with a spectular height of 4’6’’ and an impressive vault by Max Queenan ’11, at exactly 10 feet. The meet finished with some intense 4 by 400 relays. In a heated boys race, Andover edged out Governors to finish at 4:04.5. The race was highlighted by a race- changing moment when a Governor’s runner cut in front of Brian Woonton ’11 on the final turn, only to be passed by Woonton moments later. The girls 4 by 400 was equally as exciting, with the squad working effectively to a first place finish of 4:44.3. After such an impressive showing and with only a few weeks left in the season, the team hopes to continue its domination. The team will host rival Exeter in an intense match-up on Wednesday.
