4×400 Relay Team Seals Girls’ Victory over Exeter

With Andover Girls Track up by only one point at 50-49, the meet against rival school Exeter this past Wednesday came down to the final event: the 4×400 Relay.

Yearning for the victory in her last Indoor Track meet, Co-Captain Diana Tchadi ’14 flew by her Exeter opponent and never looked back, allowing Andover Girls Track to cap its undefeated season.

Both teams were even for much of the 4×400 Relay race. In the third leg, however, Andover fell behind after a baton drop between the second and third leg. Despite losing ground, Charlie Jarvis ’15 rushed by her Exeter opponent to regain the lead.

“It was amazing. Exeter is such a good team, and the fact that it came down just to the relay was amazing. When I saw the drop, I was wondering if we were going to be disqualified, but Charlie went out and got it and did so well,” said Megan Tao ’15.

Despite a strong showing, the Andover Boys Track fell 73-31 to a talented Exeter team.

Camille Little ’16 and Jarvis kicked off the girls’ success by placing first and second, respectively, in the girls 50-yard dash. Jarvis also placed first in the 300-yard dash.

Zoe Chazen 14’ took first place in the two-mile race.

In the girls’ field events, Jarvis won the long jump event, and Catherine Tobeason ’14 took first in the high jump event. Jenny Huang ’16 tied for first in the pole vault event with a jump of 7’1”. Alexis Lefft ’16 took second in the Girls’ shot put event.

On the boys’ team, Ian Whittall ’14 placed first in the two-mile run with a time of 10:03.44 and took second in the one-mile race.

“The other teams we have run against were not nearly as good competition as Exeter. So, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. So, I was just falling behind their first person because I knew I could run faster, and at the end I knew I could beat him, and I took it away,” said Whittall.

Co-Capatain Matt Fischetti ’14 and Foster Leboeuf ’15 placed first and second in the boys high jump event, respectively. Ralph Skinner ’16 placed first in the boys 1000-yard dash.

“I know Exeter is always great competition. It’s always great to run against them and try to get a fast time. So, I just gave it my best shot, and when it got close to the final, I decided to give it a go,” said Skinner.

Co-Captain Jonathan Arone ’14 took third in the boys 50-yard dash with a personal record of 6.21 seconds. Tyler Marshall ’14 placed third in the Boys 300-yard dash.

Andover Boys and Girls Track have reached the end of their regular season. Selected runners will run at USA Track and Field (USATF) Championships on February 23.
