Returning home with yet another victory and more than 20 season bests, Andover Girls Swimming and Diving beat Deerfield 106-80.

The team kicked off the meet with first and third place finishes from the 200-Yard Medley Relay teams. Simpson, Danielle Liu ’14, Katherine Sweetser ’17 and Co-Captain Amy Zhao ’14 placed first with a time of 1:50.85, just 71 milliseconds short of the record set in 2002. Sasha Newton ’16, Evelyn Liu ’15, Morgan Rooney ’17 and Jeanine Moreau ’16 came in third with 2:02.88.

Danielle Liu returned to the pool for first place in the 200-Yard Free, with Lauren Conte ’14 hot on her heels with a season best time of 2:03.45 that placed her second. Simpson followed with a season best in the 200-Yard IM, backed by Rooney and Corinna Torabi ’14 in third and fourth place finishes just 33 milliseconds apart.

“Deerfield is always a fun team to go against because they will not give away easy wins. We swam hard and came away with a lot of seasons best times,” said Simpson.
After a swift 24.79 win from Zhao in the 50-Yard Freestyle Meanwhile, divers Mia LaRocca ’16, Sabrina Rivers ’14 and Catherine Wang ’14 took third, fourth and fifth in the diving event.

Zhao and Sweetser claimed first and second in the 100-Yard Free with times of 52.72 and 55.66 respectively.

Returning to the pool after two and a half weeks due to an injury, Newton claimed first place in the 500-Yard Free with 5:49.80. Torabi glided to a 5:49.97 finish, just .17 seconds behind Newton for second place.

“It felt exciting to finally be back in the pool,” said Newton. “I was happy with my performances considering I was only back for four days prior to the meet.”
For the last event of the day, the 400-Free Relay, Duserick, Sweetser, Conte and Simpson placed first with a time of 3:46.08 and Newton, Rooney, Im and Torabi finished third with a time of 4:04.97.

“I’m pretty pumped for the next games,” said Simpson. “Even though people are getting best times, I still see so many places everybody can get better, especially technique wise. If we work hard on that stuff and focus on details, times are just going to continue to drop.”
The team holds a 3-1-0 record and will take on Hopkins on Saturday.
