Some Students Misuse Chance To Sign Ryley

The evening after students signed Ryley for its final sendoff, residents of West Quad North received an email from their Cluster Dean about the writing on the walls. WQN Cluster Dean Chad Green wrote to his cluster on Sunday, “It’s too bad that folks took it so far (writing on the Soda machine? Defaming fellow students?).” In addition to leaving their marks on Ryley’s walls last Saturday, some students signed furniture and drink machines that will be used in the Underwood Room. There was some confusion as to where students could sign. “SAB [Student Activities Board] should have made the protocol of what we could have signed more clear,” said Rekha Auguste-Nelson ’09. “I guess it’s the students’ faults,” said Jae-Hyuk You ‘10. Other students thought that some of the writing was inappropriate. Sophie Fourteau ’10 said, “It was really nice of [SAB] to have us sign Ryley as a memorial. It was disrespectful and rude to sign the machines and furniture.” Green and Head of Student Activities Cindy Efinger declined to comment for this article.
