Last Saturday, the Andover Boys Volleyball team traveled to Choate Rosemary Hall to attend the Founding Four tournament, where Andover ultimately fell 3-0 in the semifinal game to host Choate. The four teams competing in the tournament were Phillips Academy Andover, Choate, Northfield Mount Hermon, and Wilbraham-Monson. Seeded third, Andover had high hopes coming into the tournament and felt that the championship was in reach. After stealing the first set, 25-15, Choate led the second set, 7-3. But Andover refused to give up, rallying to take the 13-12 lead. Choate finished Andover off in the set, however, winning the final point to win by a score of 22-23. The Wild Boars took control from there on, winning the third set 25-17 to eliminate Andover from the winner’s bracket. Although Andover suffered a disappointing loss against Choate, the team still managed to dominate in the consolation bracket against Wilbraham-Monson. Andover took the lead early on against the new team and never gave up their concentration, leading the team to a first set win. A second-set rally by Wilbraham-Monson found Andover down late into the set, but Andover recovered for the 26-24. After both teams exchanging the leads in the first two sets, Andover finally took a definite lead and triumphed over Wilbraham-Monson, 25-17, to earn the 3-0 win. The team concludes their season 3-5 in the league and 5-8 overall, including scrimmages.
