Eva Toffoloni ’15 scored to tie Exeter in the final minutes of Andover Field Hockey’s rivalry matchup last Saturday. On Wednesday, Andover finished its season with a tough loss to Greenwich Academy in its first game of post-season play. Exeter was as competitive as always. The first half was an even match with a lot of back and forth movement from both teams. Andover held Exeter scoreless until the last 30 seconds of the half, when Exeter put one goal away. Inspired by the fan-filled atmosphere of the game, Andover stormed into the second half looking to make a comeback. In the last 24 seconds of the game, Toffoloni received a pass from Co-Captain Brooke Van Valkenburg ’12 off of a corner and netted the ball to tie the game 1-1. The tying goal sent the game into a 10-minute, seven-versus-seven sudden death overtime. “We played hard in the overtime but didn’t find ourselves with many opportunities until the last minute or so, when we got two corners,” said Alec Kingston ’14. Andover scored off of the second corner, but one of the referees called a penalty and called the goal back. The penalty was in Andover’s favor, but they was not given the advantage of receiving the goal. Both teams went scoreless through the rest of the overtime, and the game ended in a disappointing tie. This was the fourth game in the past five years against Exeter that has gone into overtime. Andover went into its game this past Wednesday playing Greenwich for the first time in Andover Field Hockey history. Greewnich scored three goals in the first 10 minutes and by halftime Andover lagged 4-0. Greenwich stayed relentless and played tough throughout the entire game. Andover had impressive moments but rarely came back for the ball. “We played to the finish; we didn’t put our heads down or pout at how much we were losing by. We kept fighting back, just like Andover Field Hockey always does,” said Amy Morin ’14. Andover finished its season with a record of eight wins, four losses and four ties.
