After missing several games with a concussion, Chris Kreider ’10 picked up right where he left off, scoring 4 goals in two games and leading Andover to a 1-0-1 week. After the 1-0-1 week, Andover’s record stands at 14-7-1. On Friday, Kreider and Captain Andrew Cox ’08 each scored a pair of goals, as Andover came from behind to tie Governor’s 4-4. The first period started out strong for Andover, and just 2:19 into the period Cox scored the first of his two goals, assisted by Kreider. However, Governor’s responded just a minute later with a goal of its own, and then took the lead at the 7:57 mark in the first period. Andover came back to tie it at the 10:58 mark, as Kreider scored his first, assisted by Cox and Bennett Carroccio ’10. However, a Governor’s goal at the end of the period sent Andover to the locker-room facing a 3-2 deficit. Early in the second period, Governor’s was able to extend its lead to 4-2. The Governor’s defense swarmed the puck, disrupting any Andover offensive rhythm. The game headed to the second intermission with Andover facing a 4-2 deficit. Behind Cox and Kreider, Andover was able to fight back and tie the game late in the third period. At the 14:59 mark in the third, Kreider scored his second of the game, assisted by Cox. Then, Cox scored the game-tying goal at the 16:13 mark off of an excellent feed by J.J. McGregor ’08. With the pair of late goals, Andover escaped with a tie. Goalie Glenn Stowell ’09 made 20 saves on the night. Wednesday, Andover’s offense exploded for nine goals, led by a hat-trick by Garnet Hathaway ’10 and two goals by Kreider, as Andover beat Cushing 9-5. Andover came out of the locker-room strong with four goals in the first period. Early in the period, Nick Craven ’09 sent a pass from behind the net to Hathaway who made a quick move and sent the puck through the goalie’s five-hole, giving Andover a 1-0 lead. Midway through the period, Andover got a shot off the face-off from the right side, causing a rebound. McGregor gathered the rebound and scored on the left side of the net, extending the Andover lead to 2-0. Andover struck again later in the period, as on a two on one Bobby Farnham ’08 sent a pass across the ice to Tucker Mullin ’08 who fired it past the Cushing goalie. Steve Bury ’08 capped the Andover onslaught with a goal as the horn sounded at the end of the period. Cushing responded in the second period with a goal. However, Kreider responded with a goal off of a McGregor pass from behind the net. Kreider scored again just a minute later, firing a shot past a diving Cushing goalie, giving Andover a 6-1 lead.Cushing refused to quit, scoring a goal at the 7:28 mark. Hathaway scored his second of the game at the end of the period. Cushing scored again at the end of the period, but Andover headed into intermission up 7-3. Early in the third, Hathaway scored again on a rebound, assisted by Cox and Kreider. However, Cushing scored two straight, closing the Andover lead to 8-5. Cox sealed the win with an empty netter, and Andover won 9-5. With the win against Cushing, Andover keeps its playoff hopes alive as the current six seed in the East.
