All-Gender Golf Remains Undefeated

Andover: 9 Proctor: 0

Golf had a shutout against Proctor Academy (Proctor) on Wednesday, securing its sixth consecutive win of the season.

The team’s impressive streak this year is the result of a myriad of factors. According to Kevin Zheng ’26, intentional practice, collective ambition, and the expertise of Head Coach Brian Faulk ’00 have all contributed to the team’s confidence and energy.

In an email to The Phillipian, Zheng wrote, “Our team is stronger than ever this year… Everyone is eager to contribute and we have a talented group of committed golfers which push each other to excel. Coach Faulk being a highly skilled golfer, guides us technically and strategically. Our winning streak boosts our confidence going into matches. Strong mentality and strategic course management play a crucial role in the game of golf. With the high team spirit, I look forward to our winning streak continuing.”

Through strong team bonds and mutual encouragement, Andover has found success on the course. Sean Niu ’25 credited the team’s current undefeated record to the warm camaraderie between players.

Niu said, “I think with our team chemistry, everyone really played well. Since it’s an individual sport, it’s really nice having some aspect of teamwork going on. It’s mainly just the benefit of teamwork for us and our team really clicks well and I think that’s really beneficial. It’s been helping us to continue to have success.”

With the classic Donald Ross-designed course of the Lake Sunapee Country Club presenting unique challenges, Niu highlighted Evan DeMayo ’26 and Zheng for their well-played matches.

Niu said, “Someone I feel like that stood out was Evan DeMayo and Kevin Zheng. I think they played the five and the six. They stood out pretty well and held their ground and scored some really important points for the team.”

Looking ahead, the team hopes to continue improving its technique and game strategy. Zheng shared his personal aspirations for upcoming events and the remainder of the season.

“Going out to practice with the team are the highlights of my days in the spring season. On our way to matches, the camaraderie and shared sense of purpose are moments I treasure. With favorable weather for golf, I will focus on shot consistency and look forward to upcoming exciting tournaments,” wrote Zheng.

All-Gender Golf will play at the Andover Invitational this Saturday.
