Student Council Update

Blue Pages As of the last full Student Council meeting three weeks ago, all of the possible updates have been made in the still work-in-progress Blue Pages for next year, according to Jim Elder ’07, head of the Blue Pages subcommittee. Dorm information for next year became available on April 10th, and the subcommittee is currently working to update the dorm section of the pamphlet. Their hope is to have the updates completed as soon as possible in order to spend some extra time annexing more sections and adding more information. Student-Faculty Dinners After a successful student-faculty dinner last term in Ropes, head of the student-faculty dinner subcommittee Eddie Kang ’07 has decided to continue the event. Kang said that there will be two such dinners this term. The specific dates and menus have yet to be determined. Abbot Grants This spring, Student Council will be applying for two Abbot grants. One of these, if received, will be used to support the previously underestimated cost for the GW renovation. The other one, if granted, will be used to fund an interscholastic conference of student councils. PACE An unfinished proposal has been floating around campus to change the residential education program at PA. PACE, or “personal and community education,” might replace or change FCD week, the date rape seminar, MLK Day, life issues, and others. The primary goals of the proposal are to find a replacement for life issues that is more efficient. Possible changes include reducing the current 28-teacher team to a more intensely trained 12-teacher group of life issues instructors, limiting the class to just lower fall, incorporating more residential education opportunities and the junior year, etc. The proposal was formally submitted to the faculty on April 23. If approved, this new system could be implemented as soon as next year.
