Curtiss Pomeroy ’12 clobbered a deep home run in the fifth inning of Andover Baseball’s 6-2 victory, the first game of an exhilarating and nail biting double-header with Exeter two weeks ago.
Andover started Dan Dymecki ’12 on the mound, who pitched a complete game, allowing only six hits and striking out seven batters in the win.
Pomeroy led the offense in the first bout of the day. In addition to his home run in the fifth, he also batted three for three and knocked in two RBIs.
Scoring two runs in the bottom half of the first inning, Exeter pounced on Andover early in the game but failed to score from then on.
Andover snatched the lead in the third inning after Co-Captain Tom Palleschi ’12, Chris Hohlstein ’14 and Will Poss ’12 each batted in runs.
The thrilling second game showcased the even matching of the two rivals, as Andover narrowly fell 5-4.
Andover jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning but let up a combined five runs in the second and fifth. Pomeroy drove a runner in to cut the deficit to one in the sixth, but Andover failed to capitalize offensively after that.
Andover took on Cushing the following Wednesday and triumphed 3-0. Tim Salvadore ’15, Thomas Lane ’15 and Pomeroy shared the mound. Together, the three allowed a mere two hits while striking out six.
Andover’s scoring came solely in the third inning as Palleschi hit a two-RBI triple in the third inning and was later brought home on a sacrifice ground ball from Poss.
Andover next faced Nobles, which it blew out in a 15-1 win.
Hohlstein kept the offense hot, as he went four for four on the day while hitting a three-run homerun in the sixth inning.
“All the guys are really starting to mesh and beginning to string hits together behind our stellar pitching staff. We’re feeling great,” said Hohlstein.
This past Saturday, Andover swept Deerfield in a double header. Andover won 2-0 in the first game and 6-0 in the second.
Dymecki pitched all seven innings yet again and allowed only two hits while striking out nine batters. He is now 4-0 on the season.
“It gives me a lot of confidence on the mound when I can feel comfortable pitching to contact because I know I have a solid defense behind me. I was in full control on the mound, changing speeds and hitting my spots,” said Dymecki.
Andover’s two runs came in the fourth inning after a two-RBI single from Co-Captain Brian Delaney ’12.
Hohlstein continued to carry Andover’s offense in the second game, pummeling a ball out of the park to give the team an early 1-0 lead. He later drove in one of Andover’s three runs in the third inning.
Andover scored runs in the fourth and fifth innings to seal a 6-0 victory.
“With my stuff working, a good offense at the plate and an impenetrable defense behind me, we are a very hard team to beat,” said Dymecki.
With six pitchers making appearances, Andover maintained its streak on Wednesday when the team took down Tabor 11-4.
Palleschi and Seamus O’Neill ’13 lit a fire under Andover’s bats with one homerun each.
Boasting a 13-5 record, Andover will head into the playoffs tomorrow
