Andover Falls to Brewster Benders

Andover goalie and Captain Corinne Rivard ’12 stopped shot after shot against Brewster and allowed only one goal against a skilled and relentless offense. Unfortunately for Andover, the team could not pull through with a win.

Rivard said, “Brewster, along with all the other prep schools, are tough competition because they are experienced and find open lanes on the ice easily. That is where we are struggling: finding open lanes.”

A very strong Brewster Academy came out firing against Andover on Friday afternoon. Unable to execute offensive plays successfully, Andover was pummeled with shots in the first period. Luckily, Rivard saved every shot that came her way and the period ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

Both teams struggled to score in the start of the second period, but Brewster finally scored a goal on a screened shot from the point, giving the team a 1-0 lead over Andover going into the third.

Andover couldn’t tie it up in the third period, and the game ended in a 1-0 loss for Andover.

Rivard said, “Overall, we need to improve on generating offense by taking shots instead of looking for perfect passes. We talk a lot out on the ice, and we need to find a way to finish by putting a few in the net.”

In its next game on Saturday, Andover fell 1-4 to a tough St. Paul’s team.

The team trailed 2-0 going into the third period. Hannah Sorkin ’14 scored Andover’s first and only goal in the next period to put Andover on the board. However, St. Paul quickly squashed Andover’s momentum and scored two more to end the game 1-4 loss.

Sorkin said, “During power plays we couldn’t set up our offense fast enough so we weren’t able to get shots off. I think that we just have to work on getting the original shot off instead of looking to make the perfect pass.”

Andover lost its third game in a row on Wednesday against Lawrence Academy.

Greer McBeth ’12 picked up Anna Fucillo’s ’15 rebound and put the puck into the net, scoring the first goal of the game. Lawrence countered quickly, scoring just two shifts later and tying the game up at one going into the second.

Lawrence scored twice more and, with a final goal three minutes before the end of the fourth period, ended the game in a 1-4 loss for Andover.

“We struggled to get the puck out of our zone. We just couldn’t break it out today,” said Sorkin.

Andover looks to end its losing streak against St. Mark’s on Saturday.
