The Girls Indoor Track team dominated Lawrence High School on Wednesday with a victory of 54-27 after competing on Sunday as the sole high school team in the Greater Boston Track Club’s invitational at Harvard University. Andover competed in the 60-meter dash, the 200-meter dash, the one-mile run, the 400 meter dash, and the 4×220-yard relay. Captain Kit Harris ’07 raced the 400-meter and finished with a time of 1:04.48. Harris also ran on one of the 4×220-yard relay teams with teammates Simone Hill ’08, Colleen Thurman ’07, and Ola Canty ’07. Thurman anchored the relay team to victory in the heat against the Greater Boston Track Club team. The team came in fourth place overall in the 4×220 event with a time of 1:59.28. In the one-mile, Sarah Cohan ’08 acheived a personal best time of 5:31.53. Hill, Thurman, and Deidra Willis ’09 raced the 60-meter dash. Hill qualified for the finals in the event with a time of 8.47 seconds and placed thirteenth out of fourteen overall in the event. On Wednesday, Andover was once again victorious in a dual meet against Lawrence High School, with a triumphant score of 54-27. In the 300 yard dash, in which Andover placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Hill took first place, as she did last week, with a time of 44.17 seconds. Willis earned an extremely close second place in 44.19. Grabbing third place was Maggie Law ’10 to complete the sweep. Hill also won the 50-yard dash for the second week in a row with a time of 6.55, followed by Thurman in 6.70. Captain Kit Harris ’07 once again captured first place in the 600-yard race, beating the second place Lawrence runner by 5 seconds with a time of 1:37.02. Andover won every field event except the high jump, which resulted in a tie between Eliza Nguyen ’09, Melissa Ferrari ’10, and a Lawrence jumper, all reaching a height of 4’4”. Sadiqa Farrow ’09 once again won the shot put, with the top throw of 27’9”. In the long jump, Thurman won with a jump of 15’11.25”, beating the second place Lawrence competitor by nearly one foot. Michelle Nguyen ’07 placed third with 14’ 1/4”. Similar to last week, Georgina Norton ’09 dominated the 1000-yard event to finish in 3:07; Tavie Abell ’10 took second in 3:17. Only Cohan ran the mile for Andover this week, beating the two other Lawrence runners with a time of 5:46. With no Lawrence entries, the two-mile was once again cancelled. Andover hopes to hold this event on Saturday in their meet against long-time rivals Andover High School in order to showcase the distance talent.
