Andover Baseball Sweeps NMH; Offense Knocks in 31 Runs on Day

Recording 26 hits on the day, Andover baseball continued its hot streak on offense, easily winning both sides of Saturday’s doubleheader against NMH. Andover dominated both the first game, 11-3, and the second, 20-7. The two wins bring Andover’s record to 8-1 on the season. Preston Atteberry ’08 took the mound for Andover in game one. He allowed just two hits in five innings, giving up three runs. Glenn Stowell ’09 pitched two scoreless frames to close out the game. The NMH baseball field didn’t include a home run fence. Many line drives into the outfield turned into extra-base hits. In the third inning, Andover hammered out eight runs on seven hits, including two triples. Ryan McCarthy ’08 started the inning with a double, and scored on a triple from Bobby Farnham ’08. Zach Fratus ’08 knocked in two runs with a triple of his own. Co-Captain Mike Ciummei ’08 also picked up two RBIs in the inning with a double. Co-Captain JR Santaniello ’08 added three hits on the day. Andover came out in the second game determined to pick up the sweep. A seven-run first inning put the game out of NMH’s reach. In the inning, Andover’s first four hitters combined to hit for the cycle. Santaniello led off the game with a homerun, which was followed by a triple, double, and a single. Andover had an incredible 26 hits on the day, 13 for extra bases. Of those extra base hits, three were home runs. In addition to Santaniello, Jack Walsh ’08 went deep for a three run shot, one of three hits for him on the day. McCarthy also went deep. He was one of two players to get five hits in the game. Catcher Geoff Lynch ’09 also had five hits. Farnham also padded his stats in the game, collecting four hits and three RBIs. “Everyone’s really seeing the ball well, and we’re putting good swings on the ball,” said Bennett Carroccio ’10.
