Boys and Girls Take Second In Time Trial Meet

Looking to bounce back from its 1-2 record from last season, Andover Indoor Track hopes to have a breakout season and eventually reach its ultimate goal of winning the NEPSAC Championship. The Captain of Girls Track, Diana Tchadi ’14, has high expectations for some of the team’s young members. “Camille Little ’16 is going to have a breakout season after having a great [Junior] year. She broke so many records last year and without a doubt will be a Division 1 runner,” said Tchadi. “Kinsey Yost [’15] will also do great things for us, she took a gap year from track, but now she is back and ready to go. Zoe Chazen [’14] is new as well and she is going to take the distance role by storm. Having never done it before, she beat our number one distance runner today,” Tchadi continued. Girls Track started off its season with a strong performance as it faced Governor’s Academy and Hyde this past Wednesday, placing second. Chazen was able to take first place in the time trial meet. She won the mile, finishing eight seconds before Andover’s Aly Wayne ’14 and Grayden Tope ’14. Yost was able to take second place in the Girls Long Jump today with a ferocious leap, marked at 13 ft. 11 in. Despite first place finishes in the 50 yard dash by Charlie Jarvis ’15, the shot put by Alexis Lefft ’16, the 4 by 400 and the 300 yard dash; Andover finished in second place overall, 13 points behind Governor’s, which took first place. Andover used its meet as a learning opportunity heading into the rest of its season, leading to its main goal: seeking revenge on Exeter after losing last year 61-43. “Our goal is to go undefeated throughout the season, there were some events we didn’t run today, such as hurdles and two mile and a few others, with those points we would have easily won today. Today’s time trials don’t count as a part of our record. That being said we are ready to work hard over break and it will give us an advantage and help us win the rest of our meets,” said Tchadi. Boys Track has comparable expectations for its upcoming season. Andover’s core comes from its tremendous leadership. “The strongest aspect of our team this year is the Senior leadership. Our Captains are leading by example and embody what PA Track and Field is all about,” said Head Coach Corbin Lang. Extra talent added to the team’s roster will help build upon a strong returning group. “The team has also added some talented athletes from the fall and spring sports that could prove to be useful this season and in the spring” said Captain Matt Fischetti ’14. Boys Track found similar results to the girls in its time trial meet, finishing 12 points shy of Wilbraham and taking second place. Andover’s Seniors took control, as Fischetti, Tyler Marshall ’14, Scott Diekema ’14 and Jonathan Arone ’14 all placed in the top three in their respective events. Fischetti came in second in the shot put behind Andover’s Josiah Legaspi ’14, whose first place throw, came in at 41 feet 5 inches. Andover took a clean sweep of the top three places in the mile run with Ian Whittall ’14 coming in first with a time of 4.52, Diekema in second at 5.01 and Ralph Skinner ’16 shortly after at 5.04. Andover’s first official meet of the season is on January 18th for Boys Track and the 22nd for Girls Track in home meets against Haverhill High and Wilbraham.
