With about eight minutes left in the third period, Nancy Ann Little ’08 scored off a rebound from a shot from the point by Katherine Sherrill ’10. She found the five-hole to tie the game up against Deerfield Academy at 1-1. In the second period with only a minute left, Deerfield scored to pull ahead, finding an open player in front of the net for a beautiful back-door goal. Deerfield came ready to play exhibiting a physical presence throughout the game, which made up for its lack of speed. Deerfield was successful in pressuring Andover in the defensive zone, while Andover struggled to get the puck around the defense crashing down on the wings and pinching deep in the offensive zone. In the second period, Andover adjusted its defensive style and breakouts to win the puck and move through the neutral zone and up ice. Andover played tenaciously until the end. Passes connected, and the team created a lot of offensive opportunities in the third period. Both Andover and Deerfield could not maintain their rhythm in the offensive zones and capitalize on their chances. In the third period, Andover barely missed on several odd-man rushes. Lindsey Weiner ’08 and Captain Stephanie Clegg ’08 generated great chances for Kaitlyn McInnis ’09, sending her on breakaways, but Deerfield’s goalie came up huge to keep her team in the game and stop Andover from pulling ahead at the very end. Andover went into overtime against Deerfield and ultimately finished the game at 1-1. “During overtime, the entire team came out flying and we played with the most intensity I have seen so far. If we continue to play with such intensity, we will be able to pick up great results in a lot of games,” said Captain Stephanie Clegg ’08. On Wednesday against rivals Exeter, Andover played well but could not put things together in the offensive zone and lost 2-0. Taking advantage of a penalty against Andover, Exeter scored to make the score 1-0 midway through the second period. Exeter capitalized on rebounds from great saves by Alissa Fromkin ’09. Only minutes later, Exeter again put itself on the scoreboard. An Exeter player positioned herself perfectly in the slot and ripped a shot past Fromkin. Andover played a physical game, but was unable to benefit from its hard work, as the referees called a tight game putting Andover in the box seven times and only gave Andover three power plays. Jamie Harisiades ’08 said, “They were definitely a beatable team, but we didn’t capitalize on the opportunities that they gave us. We let them dictate how we played,” Andover’s 3-6-2 record can largely be attributed to the lack of scoring this season. On Friday, Andover faces Brewster Academy on the road, looking to hopefully break out of its offensive troubles.
