Mid-Game Adjustments Propel Ultimate to 15-8 Win Over Concord

Despite a slow start to the game and miscommunication on offense, Andover Ultimate overpowered Concord Academy on Wednesday to win 15-8. ?? In practice during the week, the team worked on calling out defensive switches, but at Concord, the team was unable to pull through with the calls. ?? Initially, the team was defending man-on-man, but as the game went on, they adapted a zone defense. At the start of the game, Andover players struggled to adjust to the hot weather and tired out quickly. However, the team adjusted with a new substitution plan. “We started subbing a lot, so most of us were going all out and running down the disk whenever we were on for shorter intervals of time,” said Captain Eli Grober ’09. ?? During the second half of the game, the team smoothly executed specific plays for offense off the pull. “Concord Academy tired us out a little, but overall, we played really well. We made some good switches, we ran hard, and we had a lot of turnovers towards the end of the game,” said Arun Saigal ’09. According to Duncan Crystal ’10, “Both our zone defenses and offenses worked well, but we still have a lot to work on, especially man-on-man offense.”
