Andover Boys Lacrosse’s rapid-fire offense smothered Dexter Southfield and Tilton School over the weekend but came up short to Brewster Academy on Wednesday.
Andover stole an early 3-0 lead on Friday and consistently answered Dexter’s offense with man-up goals to finish with a 17-11 victory.
Co-Captain Joe Kruy ’12 led the team in scoring with five goals. In addition to Kruy, Connor Light ’13, Foster LeBoeuf ’15, Stephen Fehnel ’13, Tim Bulens ’15 and Co-Captain Tommy Shannon ’12 contributed goals.
“Because we so often had the ball, we were able to control the tempo, stopping any momentum that Dexter may have had,” said Shannon.
The day after Friday’s win, Andover went on the road to Tilton and captured a decisive 18-4 win. Andover seized control early on and reached a nine goal lead at one point in the game.
Bulens was a menace on attack, netting six goals of his own, most off of feeds close to the crease.
“We did a good job finishing our opportunities close to the cage,” said Bulens.
The rest of Andover’s goals were spread relatively evenly among the rest of the team.
The lead provided Andover with the opportunity to get its less experienced players some valuable playing time. The team maintained its level of intensity even when it took off its more skilled players.
On Wednesday, Andover broke its winning streak in a 14-7 loss to Brewster, a strong team that had a 7-0 record before the game.
Despite three goals from Kruy, two from Shannon, one from Bulens and one from Light, Andover could not stand up to the cohesion of the Brewster roster.
“They were very good. At points, we looked really good too, but their skill was overwhelming at times,” said Austin Gaiss ’14.
Now with a record of 3-3, Andover will face off against Holderness next Wednesday.
“Holderness has a lot of talent on attack and they’re extremely well-coached; they should bring similar competition that Brewster did, but I’m confident that we’ll be able to rest up this weekend and come out ” said Shannon.
