On Wednesday, Girls Squash (6-3) defeated Noble & Greenough (Nobles). While both Varsity and Junior Varsity were supposed to have a match, because of injury and sickness, Nobles only had nine players, enough for one match.

Co-Captain Migyu Kim ’25 shared that the campus-wide spread of influenza disrupted practices leading up to the game. She noted that going into the game the players focused on what they could display, while still staying in tune with their health.

“We had a lot of players that were in and out because of sickness. We were focusing more on recovery and playing with what we could, with how our bodies were feeling and stuff. So, we were mostly prioritizing recovery and health,” said Migyu Kim.

Evelyn Kung ’26 highlighted the performance of her fellow teammate, Ellie Israelov ’25. Despite still recovering from being sick, Israelov won her match, aiding in the overall success of the team.

“My teammate Ellie had a really good match because she won, and she was honestly the sickest of us all. She was coming off the court hacking, but she still managed to pull through, and I thought that was really good,” said Kung.

Minnie Kim ’27 shared that while the team was quieter than usual, it still brought the energy. The players used team celebration and motivation from the sweep to keep its spirits up.

“It was a little bit more quiet today, but despite that, everyone was really pumped. We were all really excited. Obviously we had a clean sweep, so we’re all really excited about that. Also, it was our Captain’s birthday, so we’re also pretty hyped about that. We still have really positive energy, and we’re all just really excited and supportive of one another. Everyone is coaching everyone, and it’s fun,” said Minnie Kim.

Migyu Kim highlighted teammate Liz Zhao ’24’s persistence through her five games. She mentioned that despite the length of the match, Zhao performed at the same high caliber level in each game.

Migyu Kim said, “Liz had a really great match. She had a five-gamer, and really kept her composure throughout the whole entire match. Five gamers are obviously really stressful and tiring too, but she kept on playing with the same level of consistency and grit throughout the entire match, so she definitely deserves some recognition.”

Looking ahead, Kung shared that the team will need to work on fitness to bounce back after being sick. She noted that it aims to use its next match as an opportunity to improve in-match skills.

Kung said, “We need to work on getting back into shape because all of us have been sick. So a lot of fitness work, more drilling. We have Brooks on Friday, which I don’t think is going to be that tough of a match, but it’ll be good practice for all of us to work on match skills for when we get harder matches.”

Girls Squash will play Brooks away on Friday.
