Co-Captain Molly Boyle ’25: Team USA Defender and Champion

Andover Girls Hockey Co-Captain Molly Boyle ’25 has always been a driven player. Her relentlessness and work ethic have gotten her selected as one of the eight defenders on Team USA. She will be representing the country in the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) U-18 Women’s World Championships.

In an email to The Phillipian, Boyle shared how she hopes to be perceived on the team. She highlighted her calm playstyle and dependability as a few of her strengths. While away at the IIHF Championships in Switzerland, Boyle hopes to inspire the team.

Boyle wrote, “I hope I am seen as a player who loves playing… alongside the incredible teammates I have here at PA. Having a high work rate each shift, each practice, each game, is something that inspires me in others, so I try to always deliver that myself. Playing with consistency and focusing on the things I can control like compete, preparation and investing in every shift, and not getting rattled by the things that don’t go my way.”

Corinne Spade ’27 noted Boyle’s energetic and trusting nature as key attributes of her captainship. Spade further emphasized the composure that Boyle maintains amid challenges.

“She is very optimistic, she is very social and outgoing, and she is able to have a connection with everyone on the team… She plays so effortlessly. She plays defense and [when] she is in a tough situation, she will be so calm under pressure and can always have your back,” said Spade.

On the ice, Chanel Martin ’27 credited Boyle for her entertaining performances on the defense line. Martin specifically highlighted Boyle’s playmaking ability as one of her biggest strengths.

Martin said, “She is so fun to watch and play with because of her amazing skills and positive energy. On the ice, I see Molly as an absolutely disgusting player with great skills and playmaking abilities. Her playing style is remarkable, I love to watch and learn from her.”

Boyle wrote, “I love the play-making part of hockey and getting creative with passes and incorporating the five of us out there together each shift. Paying attention to the importance of work ethic, each play with consistency really makes an impact and that’s something I try to focus on when I’m out there.”

Martin continued, adding that Boyle’s positive attitude and skillfulness had gained her a lot of appreciation from the lowerclassmen on the team. Her humility and willingness to uplift her teammates characterize her leadership.

Martin said, “I love to watch and learn from her. Sometimes when I don’t fully understand a drill we are doing in practice I will go to Molly and ask for an explanation because she is extremely nice and will be patient with me to ensure I understand.”

Boyle looks forward to continuing ice hockey at a collegiate level. She aspires to continue being a part of the hockey community through coaching beyond her college years.

“I’m definitely excited about the opportunity to play in college and to hopefully continue to develop and grow as a player, a teammate, and student athlete. After that, I’m not sure yet, but I know I’d love to coach someday and give back to the sport and the countless coaches and leaders who’ve helped to shape so many incredible experiences for me over the years,” wrote Boyle.

Boyle will play Division I Hockey at Yale University.
