PA Boys Tennis Improves to 4-1 on Season; Doubles Teams Sweep vs. Exeter and NMH

After a dominating win in the first doubles by Trey Meyer ’09 and Captain Foster Jebsen ’08, Andover held on in the rest of the singles matches to clinch a 4-3 victory over rival Exeter. The thrilling win brings the team’s season record to 4-1. Playing at the number one spot Meyer and Jebsen remained in control throughout their match and claimed a decisive win over their opponents. Andrew Chan ’08 and Tony Zou ’09 also defeated their doubles opponents, earning the Andover team a valuable point for the day. Unfortunately, Meyer lost his first set in singles by a narrow margin, suffering a difficult and close 7-6 loss. He was leading in the second set when the team match was won and play ceased. He retired with a sore elbow. Jebsen played an impressive match against Exeter. He dominated in two straight sets: 6-3. 6-2. At the number three spot Chan swept his match 6-2 and 6-4 in the first two sets. Zou, playing number four, won the team match with a brilliant effort against his skilled and determined opponent from Exeter. On Saturday, the Boys Tennis team traveled to Northfield Mount Hermon to sweep both the singles and doubles matches. Andover recorded three consecutive wins in the doubles matches. The 8-3, 8-5 and 8-2 victories led the team to grab the doubles point. Meyer defeated his NMH opponent in the first singles match, winning 6-0 and 6-0. Jebsen played outstandingly and won his first two sets 6-4 and 6-2. These two players set the tone for the team, which went on to sweep every match in the first two sets. Chan recorded a shut-out win on Saturday, sweeping his opponent 6-0 and 6-0. Following his lead, Zou crushed his opponent with a score of 6-0 and 6-1. Jin Won Lee ’08 and Chris Kim ’08 both won two straight sets at the number five and six spots.
