Winter Term postseason was marked by success and records for Andover teams with highlights from the pool to the ice rink. Boys Swimming & Diving completed the nine-peat, with an exhilarating 100-yard breaststroke final that ended in the fastest and second-fastest times in Andover swimming history. Girls Indoor Track and Field had five girls compete in the New Balance Nationals Indoor (NBNI). Boys Hockey culminated its season with its program’s first New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Championship, adding onto the team’s first Flood-Marr tournament victory earlier this year. Girls Hockey placed second at the NEPSAC tournament, beating both the defending champions and first-seed en route to the finals.
Boys Swimming: Boys Swimming & Diving entered the NEPSAC Championships at Hotchkiss as heavy favorites, seeking its ninth straight title and an undefeated season. Off the heels of its third straight Easterns Championship, Boys Swimming & Diving continued its dominance at NEPSACs. Despite a false start during the 200-Yard Individual Medley relay, the team cruised to the championship with a team score of 432, 121 points above second place Phillips Exeter Academy. During the meet, six records were broken, with Pippin Kantakom ’25 and Oliver Feng ’25 placing first in the 100-Yard Breaststroke and 50-Yard Freestyle, respectively. Despite all the incredible records, the most interesting moment of the meet happened during the finals of the 100 Yard Breaststroke. During the final, Kantakom and Daniel Seong ’25 both set the pool, meet record, and the fastest and second-fastest performance by an Andover swimmer in the event, with Kantakom edging out Seong by 0.18 seconds.
Girls Indoor Track and Field: From March 13 to March 16, five members of Girls Indoor Track and Field competed at New Balance Nationals Indoor (NBNI) in Boston, MA. Ela Budzinski ’27 opened in the Freshman Division 400-Meter. Later, she competed in the Girls Distance Medley Relay (DMR), culminating in a 20th place finish, alongside Co-Captain Emma Hagstrom ’25, Anya Budzinski ’26, and Amelia Alvazzi ’26. Additionally, Anya Budzinski performed well in the Championship Division 800-Meter; and Hagstrom and Alvazzi subsequently competed in the Championship Division 1-Mile. Beyond Andover’s DMR squad, sprinter Caitlin Ly ’27 participated in the Championship Division 60-Meters.
Boys Hockey: Boys Hockey emerged victorious against Westminster in the NEPSAC Large School Tournament, winning the first NEPSAC Tournament in program history. Initially seeded third, it began its journey to victory in the competition’s quarterfinals against the sixth-seeded Trinity-Pawling School. That is, Andover defeated its opponent in a decisive 6-0 shutout. In its semifinal matchup against Avon Old Farms––seeded second, Boys Hockey posted another shutout, cruising past its opponents in a 7-0 victory. Against Westminster, finally, the team scored four goals and allowed only one goal from its opponent, ending its triumphant season with the team’s first-ever Flood-Marr Championship and NEPSAC Tournament victories in program history.
Girls Hockey: Despite being seeded fifth in the NEPSAC Elite Eight bracket, Girls Hockey made a deep run to the finals, losing to second seed Loomis Chaffee in the culminating match. In its first-round match, Girls Hockey faced the fourth-seeded defending champions Nobles. In a hard-fought battle, Andover emerged victorious, winning 2-1 in its first win of the tournament. In its semi-final match, Girls Hockey faced first-seeded Williston, who had won two of the last three tournaments and was poised to win a third. Despite the odds, Andover secured a decisive 3-0 victory, avenging its loss to Williston in last year’s tournament and sending them to the finals. In the final, Girls Hockey fell 3-5 against second-seed Loomis Chaffee, ending its run with a second place finish.
