David Fox has instilled excellence into the Boys Swimming team throughout his tenure. Having been named the Head Coach of the Boys Boys Swimming in 2012, Fox has since won the New England Swimming Championships all of the ten times the team has entered the event. Fox holds an exceptional 88-3 record in dual meets and has also led the team to its first Eastern Championship meet since the 1970s in 2013. Fox helped bring home Andover’s first Eastern Championships win in 2020 and is the first team from New England to do so. Fox’s excellence has since been reflected in the team as 323 Andovers swimmers have broken National, class, pool, and New England Records since 2012, while leading 35 swimmers to win 76 All-American rewards.
Ethan Zhu ’26, a two-time all-NEPSAC swimmer who has helped the team win its last two Easterns and New England Championships, reflected on Fox’s leadership. Zhu commented on how Fox has helped him improve over the years through cultivating a welcoming, yet intense environment intended to embrace competition and growth.
Zhu said, “ Just overall being there and checking in on us when we need to. In terms of success for the past few seasons, he’s been able to provide us with really good training, especially considering that the seasons have been quite short compared to what you should be doing. So we’re able to get a lot in and his training is really intense and tough, but I think he’s able to create an environment that both welcomes competitiveness and things like that, but also [is] really friendly and open to anyone who wants to come and join it and do competitive swimming. So I think it’s just overall a very good place to be but also a place that really has some sort of history of success.”
