We all love dormrotting instead of doing anything productive on our Saturdays. After all, what else is Sunday at 11 p.m. besides studying for two majors, writing an English essay, and discovering you have a History in-class tomorrow? This mindset is shared by the many students who attended this year’s Quad Night.
Rockwell’s underground gambling ring apparently resurfaced for the event, with a table dedicated to playing Poker for “fake money.” The “Bartlet Beater” broadened the connotations of his name with a ‘generational’ win streak in Poker (and also at the arm wrestling booth, though strangely, he lost on his left hand every time). Reports say he beat everyone arrogant enough to think they could outdo him. He says that it’s about focus and pacing yourself so as not to burn out. This is also, coincidentally, advice no Andover student has ever followed academically. The students of Bartlet, missing his presence, took this advice to heart, hoping to someday take his place.
Among the food options were pretzels, ice cream, and slushies. The ice cream truck was apparently operated by McDonald’s, as it was down for the entire event. Apparently, they were busy trying to fix the ever-broken Mc… Flurry machine. On the other end of the spectrum (not the spectrum Andover students are usually on) was the “Ultimate Slush” stand, which had a line that spanned half the courtyard. Many left the line unsatisfied. The pretzels were also quite successful, although some people were miffed by the lack of marshmallows. Sadly, after running out of marshmallows within the first 27 minutes, an investigation into whether the marshmallows had been laced with something stronger than sugar was prompted. Turns out, jealous Flagstaff students stole 4 bags after realizing that Quad Night had more than triple the attendance of the Fall Festival at Flagstaff Courtyard. There was also a table for chips, but no one ever found it wedged between the ice cream (or a lack thereof) and the slushies.
As for inflatables, our old friend Adrenaline Rush II showed up once more. At this point, it’s been at more events this year than 60% of actual students. There was also a knockoff Hungry Hungry Hippos and an untitled soccer game where everyone was tied together. A lower with a 6 in their RelPhil class stated that it was an allegory for Andover: “It’s a bunch of hollow, hungry people racing despite being tied down with the expectations of others and the burdens that come with being a student at such a difficult school.” Another student with a 3 in the same class said that it was like football, since “you kick balls, run fast, and yearn for even more balls.” For this incredible insight, the latter student, a 20 year old PG, received extra credit for his next assessment in the class. Whether it is out of amazement or pity is unknown.
