Students filled Phelps Stadium in red, white and blue last Saturday afternoon for the football game. With America-themed outfits including blue sunglasses and Uncle Sam hats, students cheered on Andover with festive spirit.

“I wore a white top, blue pants, and a gray sweater. I had blue sunglasses and a red necklace on as well. My favorite part was probably the necklace and sunglasses, because I thought they were a fun touch to my outfit. I got the sunglasses from an Andover spirit day last year. I’ve worn them a lot last year and this year because they really make the outfit when we’re trying to wrap our school spirit, especially with having as much blue as you can. Everybody wearing their red white and blue really added [the atmosphere]. It instilled a sense of pride, especially in our school. We were all doing chants whenever the team scored a touchdown or an interception. The vibe overall was just really fun and in the moment.”

“Everybody in the drumline had American flags inside our pockets, or attached to drums, or whatever we were playing. I saw people running up and down the fields and showing that they were there and supporting us and we were there too. Even something as little as clothing really adds to that vibe. I feel really connected because it showed the football team that people from their own community, not just the staff, but their actual classmates or their peers, were also there in support.”

“I believe I was wearing black shorts and then a red sweatshirt or a red shirt. I’m an international student. You know, Canadian. And any excuse to get all American and dressed up and [be in] American pride is really fun to me. Hearing the anthem was cool, seeing the colors were cool, the drumline, everything. The whole spirit was really fun. Everyone was really dressed up. They were hyped, they were waving flags. Everyone was screaming. It was so cool seeing the Blue Key Heads cheering and everything.”

“I wore a blue Vineyard Vines quarter-zip, some red Lululemon shorts, white shoes, and some of my friends were passing around an Uncle Sam type of hat, so I had that on for a minute. It wasn’t over the top. I probably could have gone more all out, to be honest. My favorite part of my outfit is probably the top because I was representing the whale Vineyard Vines. Shoutout to Uncle Go for getting me my shirt still. In the future, I would get myself a Star-Spangled Banner pair of overalls. There were a couple of other people wearing them. I thought it was a good outfit.”
