Costumes to Die For: Andover’s Halloween Highlights

Whether it was preparing for the annual Halloween dance or a fun night of trick or treating, Andover students from all grade levels eagerly used this past weekend as an opportunity to let loose and express their creativity. Embracing the spirit of the Spooky Season, students sported a myriad of classic looks, complicated ensembles, and homemade costumes.

Shelby Aime ’28
“I dressed up as Tiana because I have wanted to dress up as her for so long, and it was one of my favorite movies growing up. My friends and I all dressed up like different Disney princesses, and dressing up as a Disney princess is sort of like a rite of passage, so I was really excited to do it. I took a lot of inspiration directly from the movie, but I also looked on Pinterest a lot because I wanted it to give classy and timeless vibes.”

Serafina Shin-von Nordenflycht ’25
“I was Harley Quinn from the ‘Birds of Prey’ movie. I have always had a love for fashion designing and costuming, and I was just amazed by her jacket, so I thought to myself, ‘I could make that,’ and so I did exactly that. As for the shirt and top, I just bought and then painted those. For the jacket itself, though, I created a pattern out of vinyl, and then, I took costume tape, tinsel, and ribbon and spent a lot of time sewing them in rows… I am so happy with the final product, and this was one of my best Halloween costumes by far.”

Morgan Hsu ’26
“My Halloween costume is a sailor with Julia Song ’26. We first saw this costume on Pinterest, and we thought it would be fun because we like the color blue, and we also get to wear really fun hats. We tried our best to see if we had anything in our closets that we could use so that we wouldn’t have to buy new stuff completely.”

Aglaia Hong ’27
“I dressed up as the Corpse Bride, or Emily. I really wanted to do it, because I thought she’s really pretty… She’s a bride, but I didn’t want to wear a wedding dress. I wanted something more casual to move around a lot since it was a dance. I used stuff that I had because it wasn’t necessary to buy something new. I used my Prefect’s flowers hanging on her wall to make the flower crown. I borrowed someone’s dress, and I used makeup that I already had.”

Chanel Martin ’27
“I dressed up as Medusa because I really like the color green, and it was a pretty unique costume. I ordered the top and all of the jewelry online. I wanted to capture the essence of Medusa instead of exactly replicating her, which is why I have a bunch of snake jewelry on my arms and around my neck. I also put some gold glitter on my face to make the costume more exciting.”

Jeannie Kang ’28
“I am dressed as Little Red Riding Hood, because I always loved Little Red Riding Hood as a kid. So, I wanted to reminisce my childhood memories. Honestly, I didn’t have a lot of other options because I began looking for the costume two weeks prior to Halloween, but this was the one that caught my attention. I didn’t want to be too creepy, so I removed zombies and ghosts from my options. It looked cute. This comes in a set, so I didn’t have to go through a lot of process, but my dear friend did the makeup.”
