Andover Boys Lacrosse faced tough competition this past week, losing to Lawrenceville, the New Jersey state champions, and Brewster Academy. Brewster Boys Lacrosse is currently ranked ninth in New England by laxpower.com. On Saturday, Lawrenceville stunned Andover in the first five minutes, putting away five efficient, unanswered goals. However, the team regrouped and played better in the three remaining quarters. Ultimately, though, Andover fell to Lawrenceville 16-10. The game against Lawrenceville was played at Harvard Stadium. Andover sent a fan bus so that students could support their classmates. “It was cool to play in [Harvard Stadium],” said Jack MacWilliams ’15. Andover had no choice but to put its loss to Lawrenceville behind it and focus on its other away game against Brewster. Andover used its previous loss as a springboard to success and looked like a strong contender to win in the first half. The game was tied 3-3 at the end of the first quarter. “We started off well. We were up 7-5 at halftime and then fell apart,” said Co-Captain Connor Light ’13. The game against Brewster was Light’s first since returning from a shoulder injury. “We came out a little flat at halftime, and the game slipped away from us a little bit. Austin Gaiss [’14] had a great game, and we learned a lot about what we need to work on, like our off ball defense,” added goalie Clark Perkins ’14. Last Friday’s game against Dexter Southfield was cancelled because of rain. The game would have been the team’s third straight road game on its string of five away games. Andover looks to build momentum as it heads into its big night game against Deerfield, which is ranked third in New England by laxpower.com.
