Dana Feeny ’08 drew a double team as she drove to the goal, but her poise under pressure allowed her to find a clear shooting lane for Summer Washburn ’11 who ripped a low bounce shot, and put Andover in the lead 9–4. Andover and Taft battled for the first few goals. Trailing 4–3, Andover fought back with three goals in the end of the first half to pull ahead 6–4. Andover’s tenacity was tremendous against Taft on Saturday. Through its defense and offensive possession, Andover scored six goals and only gave one up in thirty-one minutes in a span running from the end of the first half to midway through the second. Andover responded quickly to Taft’s fifth goal at the seventeen-minute mark in the second half with two goals. “The victory against Taft was about the little contributions that every player made,” said Co-Captain Britney Van Valkenburg ’08. Sam Lawson ’10 created a huge offensive opportunity for Andover hustling to beat out several Taft defenders to a rebound. Gaining possession of the ball, she helped Andover resettle offensively to go ahead 11–5. However, Andover struggled to maintain its momentum to win the face off draws, and Taft netted three goals in less than two minutes on fast breaks. Although Andover came back to turn the game in its favor, scoring two more goals, Taft was able to score its ninth goal in the last few seconds of the game. The game ended in Andover’s favor with a 13–9 victory, pushing the squad’s season record to 5-2. Andover played every aspect of its game well, with Alissa Fromkin ’09, Emily Little ’09, Kaitlyn McInnis ’09, Washburn and Feeny leading the attack. On Wednesday, Governors’ undefeated team brought Andover’s five-game winning streak to a close by a final of 12–7. Andover started the game with a 5–1 lead, halfway through the first half. However, Andover struggled to win the draws, and Governor’s came roaring back, winning the ball and taking advantage of fast breaks to score five quick goals. Andover tied the game at six with less than a minute into the second half, and even though Kaitlin Gaiss ’09 made numerous tremendous saves, Governor’s who responded with two more quick goals to put Andover behind at 8–6. At the 7:30 mark, Andover narrowed the gap to 8–7, but Governor’s pulled away for a 12–7 victory. “Governor’s tight pressure kept us from catching and throwing as well as we have in other games,” said Co-Captain Lindsey Weiner ’08. Andover looks to start another winning streak against Tabor at home on Saturday.
