Athlete of the Week: Ryan Hartung ’12

Co-Captain Ryan Hartung ’12 has been a force on the court thus far in the season, averaging 19.6 points a game, including a monster 29-point game in Andover’s victory over Belmont Hill. His efforts earned him this week’s Athlete of the Week honors.

When did you start playing basketball?

I started playing basketball when I was four years old at the Haverhill Y.M.C.A.

Why are you so tall?

It is actually something you can’t control. I’m surprised you didn’t know that.

Favorite pump-up jam?

“Everytime We Touch” by Cascada.

Favorite pro team?

Flint Tropics. Favorite player: Coffee Black.

Who is your role model?

Leah Humes [’12]. She is an inspiration for our generation. She is the star of the soccer, basketball and lacrosse teams.

What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?

I prefer sherbet.

What’s your favorite number?

20.

What was the best gift you got over the holidays?

Rory Ziomek [’13] made me a portrait of myself out of macaroni. It wasn’t very good, but it’s the thought that counts.

Describe Coach Mo in three words:

The Second Coming.

Any pre-game superstitions?

We like to do a pre-game dougie competition in the locker room.

What is your favorite movie?

I can’t fall asleep at night without watching at least three of “The Land Before Time” movies.

What do the best basketball players wear?

Nike, strictly Nike. As much as possible. Socks, sleeves, shoes, headbands (shout out to Rory Ziomek), sweats, jackets and turtlenecks… All Nike.
