Letters to the Editor

‘The Real Israel’ (1/9)

To the Editor:? Mr. Gould, I whole-heartedly agree. I have been waiting so long for someone to put my feelings on this issue into print, for someone to give voice to the silenced Jewry, and you have done so eloquently and with true feeling. While in Israel I saw people living in constant danger. Though their lives were threatened with every trip to the grocery store and walk through the park, they remained unfazed. What truly torments these people is not this threat to their personal safety, but the continual danger that threatens their community. We Jews have suffered through floods and famine, forty day treks and appalling genocide, TOGETHER. We suffer as a people. What world is it that we live in when children can die and still be considered unimportant, as they are the children of the supposed “oppressors.” The dominant powers and their newspapers need to realize that in this conflict there is no “underdog.” It must be brought to their attention that this is not a war in which you pick sides. This is a brutal and seemingly unending struggle in which the innocent suffer the most. Impartiality is the only thing both sides can reasonably request, and yet it is constantly denied to us. I applaud Mr. Gould’s bravery against this sea of adversity, against what is “politically correct,” and stand with his people, as every Jew should. Mr. Gould speaks not only for himself, but also on behalf of all Jews who feel the pain of their brothers and sisters in Israel. To you, Mr. Gould, I give my reply: Next year, in Jerusalem.
