The Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team came out of Parents Weekend with a huge 2-1 win over Deerfield but couldn’t continue its success on Wednesday at Middlesex, falling 3-1. After a scoreless first half on Saturday, the Big Green capitalized on a poorly touched ball by the backs to make the score 1-0. On the kickoff, Charlotte MacMillan passed the ball off to Kara Hollis ’07, who then passed it to Ali Holliday ’06. Holliday took control and dribbled through five Deerfield defenders and fired a shot past the Deerfield goalie. The girls continued their assault with another goal by Rosie Raymond-Sidel ’08 from just outside of the eighteen, sealing a 2-1 victory. On Wednesday against Middlesex, Andover showed up to the field inspired from its win on Saturday. MacMillan described the first half of play, saying, “It was almost like we were playing ourselves, but of course, we weren’t really playing ourselves. We were playing Middlesex. You know what I mean?” Despite Andover’s efforts on defense, Middlesex’s forwards were first to get on the board. A beautiful play from Holliday to McMillan earned a score for the Big Blue, tying the game. In the second half, a girl left unmarked in the defensive third capitalized on a well placed cross and scored in the bottom corner of the net. On a corner kick awarded to Middlesex, confusion in the back led to Middlesex’s third and final goal. Said Kara Hollis after the game, “Despite this frustrating loss, I think the girls are all moving past it and looking to pull through a win at home this weekend against B. B. & N.”
