Goals in Second Half Not Enough

With fours of starters injured, Andover Girls Soccer lost its games against Choate on Saturday and Brooks on Wednesday, both by a score of 3-1.

In the game against Choate, Andover’s only goal came from Kaitlin Poor ’13, who scored off a cross from Jessica Vocaturo ’13.

Andover outshot Choate but was unable to capitalize on several key opportunities.

“At the end of the day, we were right there with them the whole way. We just couldn’t finish,” said Diana Tchadi ’14.

“Choate had one very strong forward that led their offense and another strong defender that held their defense together,” added Tchadi.

On Wednesday against Brooks, Andover faced a two goal deficit early on and remained down 2-0 through halftime.

Andover’s offense opened the second half with a burst of energy, as Hannah Guzzi ’14 received a cross from Tchadi and rocketed it in.

“After a rough first half in the cold and the rain, the team showed much more heart in the second half, starting quickly with a goal and keeping up the hard work for the rest of the 30 minutes,” said Tessa Peterson ’15.

Brooks reaffirmed its lead with another goal later in the half, and time ran out before Andover could respond.

Despite the loss, Andover’s players still had strong perfomances.

“Nekele McCall [’14] was able to play an amazing game by basically controlling the entire midfield and helping create opportunities,” Yost said.

After the two losses, Andover’s record stands at 2-5.

“Injuries have made this season a tough one,” said Yost.

In the Brooks game, Emily Fang ’13 played her first game back from injury, a return which will bolster the team.

“I have been super impressed with Emily Fang because she recovered so quickly from an injury,” said Peterson. “She has already made such a difference in practice and games. Her grace with the ball and boundless effort really show on the field and will help us as the season goes on.”

Andover will host Governor’s tomorrow and travels to St. Paul’s for a game next Wednesday.
