In a rematch of January’s meeting between these two teams, Andover will face Exeter this Saturday at 4:00. Although Andover was victorious in that game by a score of 4-1, Coach Boylan knows this weekend’s matchup will be a tough game. “Exeter is a very talented team, and we will have to play as mistake-free as we can,” he said. Facing scorers such as Dan Weiniger and defenseman like Thomas Larkin, Andover will have to play well in all phases of the game. To add to the pressure, it will have playoff implications, as both teams look to secure high seeds for the upcoming New England Prep School playoffs. Returning players and new players alike look forward to this great rivalry game. “My experiences in the game these last two years have been awesome,” said returner Bennett Carroccio ’10. “You’d have to be inhuman to not get chills when your skates hit the ice for the first time.” Post-Graduate Lozzi is also looking forward to the rivalry weekend game, which will be his first. “I’m really excited to play in this storied rivalry. It’s great not only for us players, but also the coaches and the fans,” he said. Last year’s 2-0 Andover win was a thriller and close until the final whistle. If that game is any indication of how close this game will be, the fans are in for a great contest Regardless of win-loss records and post-season plans, the pinnacle moment for Girls Hockey is always Andover-Exeter. This season Andover obtained a record of 12-7-2, a huge improvement from last year. After dropping its final two home games of the year, though, Andover will not be making a trip to the playoffs. Exeter, however, secured playoff status with a record of 13-6-1. Earlier in the season, Exeter traveled to Andover for a mid-season match up. With goals from Avery Stone ’10 and Katie Riley ’10, Andover claimed a 2-1 victory. The win came on a day Andover was depleted with injuries, skating only seven forwards. Andover hopes this time around won’t be any different. With the roster back in good health, and the scent of redemption in the air after Exeter made the playoffs, Andover is in strong position. This time the game will be played at Exeter’s rink. Kellie Walsh ’11 said, “It will be great to play in front of a big crowd and show off Andover Girls Hockey. Since we won’t be in the playoffs, this game is the highlight of the season.” Andover will face Exeter at 2:00 on Saturday.
