Emily Little ’09 Scores Four Goals in Two Games; Girls Soccer Overpowers Deerfield and B.B.&N

A dominant week for the Girls Varsity Soccer team propelled it to two more well-earned wins. A formidable Deerfield squad and a persistent BB&N team both provided strong fights, but both succumbed to PA’s powerful offense, losing to Andover 3-0 and 4-0, respectively. The pair of shutouts also showed Andover defensive consistency. Emily Little ’09 and Amanda Brisco ’10 greatly contributed to Andover’s offense against Deerfield. After breaking out of Andover’s defensive half, Eliza Nguyen ’09 found a way down to the right corner of Deerfield’s defensive half. After beating a defender, Nguyen lofted a beautiful ball into the box. This cross found the foot of Amanda Brisco ’10 who easily tapped the ball in the net. Little, who had only recently moved up to the striker position a couple of games ago, scored two goals, both of which were breakaway one-on-ones with the opposing goalie. After beating a couple of Deerfield defenders, Little slotted the ball handily past the Deerfield goaltender. The other goal came off of a well placed through ball, giving Little another one-on-one opportunity. Taking advantage of her position, she took lifted the ball over the goalkeeper easily to score her second goal of the day. Try as it might to come back after this offensive surge from Andover, Deerfield failed to get past the steadfast Andover defense and the sound goaltending of Alex Farrell ’10. This past Wednesday, Little shone once again in what was yet another offensive show for Andover. Andover overwhelmed BB&N with a 4-0 win. Entering the second half 2-0, many players, including Co-Captain Dana Feeney ’08, believed the first half had contained the best play Andover had executed all season: “We were really moving the ball well throughout the field. Also, our defenders stepped up a lot, which helped us keep the ball in the opposing half of the field for most of the game,” Little participated in almost every goal, assisting on one and scoring two. One of the goals that she scored came off of a pass from Shannon Neschke ’08, which found Little at the top of the penalty area. She then fired a near-perfect shot past the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner of the net. Her second goal came off of a pass from Autumn Jordan ’10, which Little easily slotted past the BB&N goalkeeper. Her assist came when she fired a shot at the goalie. Unable to handle the ball effectively, the BB&N goalkeeper dropped the ball in the six yard box. Neschke was there for the untimely rebound and cleanly put the ball away to make the score 3-0. The last goal of the day for Andover came when Katherine Woonton ’11 took a well-placed shot from inside the opposing penalty area, which the keeper once again bobbled. Co-Captain Feeny found the ball off of the rebound and easily shot it into the net. Andover’s next game is at Holderness at 2:30 p.m. next Wednesday.
