JV Team Of the week: Boys’ Basketball

With a slow beginning, this year’s Boys Junior Varsity Basketball team has begun to pick up momentum and put some points on the board. The boys are coached by Instructor in English Kevin O’Connor and Phillips Academy graduate Hugh Quattlebaum ’94. Co-captains Jisung Park ’04 and Jed Kelly ’04 have steered the boys to a 4-7 record. Although the squad’s record may not appear to be the best, the Boys have had a quality year. As team member Edwin Kulubya ’06 says, “In the beginning, we struggled because we weren’t really playing like a team. But now we’re pulling it together.” Despite the squad’s youth and lackluster record, the team boasts several stand out players. Master rebounder Paul Tassinari ’04 heads the list, head and shoulders above the rest. Guards Callistus Onyiuke ’05 and Andrew Dean ’05 have handled the ball well this season, making up one of the top backcourts in the league. In last week’s game against NMH, Tassinari alone scored 35 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, dished 7 assists, and rejected 2 Hogger shots. Dean added 16 points of his own and nabbed 13 rebounds. In an earlier game against Worcester Academy, Park made poured in a game high 21 points. As Kulubya mentioned, the team is full of great athletes. As the season winds down, the boys will surely continue to push harder and reap a few more wins.
