Hannah Guzzi ’14 and Alex Thomas ’15 each netted two goals in Girls Varsity Soccer’s game against BB&N on Saturday, leading Andover to a 7-2 blowout.
Andover’s first goal came just five minutes into the game when Katie Kreider ’14 played a great ball over the BB&N defense for Guzzi to run onto and blast past the keeper. Despite Andover’s strong defending, BB&N managed to slip past the team’s backline and level the score at 1-1.
Soon after, Guzzi regained the lead for Andover when she received a pass from Kaylie Williams ’12 and drove the ball into the side netting. Minutes later, center midfielder and Co-Captain Leah Humes ’12 chipped the ball over the keeper into the left corner of the net to bring the score to 3-1.
Even with a comfortable lead, Andover continued attacking, and with 10 minutes left in the first half, right back Diana Tchadi ’14 blasted a shot from 40 yards out to widen the gap to 4-1. Just minutes later, Kira Wyckoff ’12 scored the team’s fifth goal, aided by Kreider’s second assist of the game.
In the second half, Andover looked to some of its younger players to continue the team’s first half success. Thomas scored two goals to extend Andover’s lead even further.
The team’s back line played a sound second half, letting only one goal in off a header from a BB&N striker. The game ended with a final score of 7-2.
Andover finished off the week with a 3-0 win at Tabor. Nekele McCall ’14 scored the first goal with a header off a long throw-in from Wyckoff 20 minutes into the first half. Later in the half, Guzzi received the ball from Zoe Chazen ’14 at the top of the 18-yard box and put the ball past the keeper.
In the second half, Kreider netted the ball on a volley off a corner kick from McCall, making the score 3-0. Tabor was unable to score all game due to a fantastic performance from Andover’s back line. “Our defense played impeccably, as usual. They worked well together and looked very organized,” said Kreider.
With a record of 4-1-1 and a three game winning streak, Andover will have its next game against Choate this coming Sunday.
