The Blue Key Heads offered various extravaganzas in Paresky Commons.
Julie Powers, Administrative Assistant in the Dean of Studies Office:
“I decided to add some non sibi [to the holiday] by making valentines for a local elder care facility. I contacted Vanguard [Eldercare] on Andover Street and spoke with their Activities Director. She supplied a list of the names of their permanent residents, and we went from there. My personal goal was to have 3 Valentine’s cards for each resident of Vanguard. There were 52 names on the list. I am thrilled to say we reached that goal! I made up little personalized gift bags with the 3 cards and a treat for each resident and delivered them the day before Valentine’s Day. I like to think we brought a smile and some joy to the folks living there. As my own mom ages, I know she loves to get mail, and if we can brighten someone’s day, especially during the winter, it is well worth it!”

“There were streamers from the ceiling, flower petals on the ground, the Blue Key Heads were dressed up in different Valentine’s Day themed outfits, there were stamps and Hershey’s kisses. There were also posters and music… My friend paid the Blue Key Heads for the Valentine’s Day extravaganza for me to sit on Jack Farrell [’26]’s back while he did push-ups. It was really funny because my friends were all recording me. They thought it was really funny, and they had been waiting all week. We all signed each other up for different ones, so it was payback as well.”
Malcolm Tolbert ’26, Blue Key Head:
“The vibes in [Paresky] Commons were super high, and everyone was super engaged with all the extravaganzas and everything that was going on. There was music playing in the background, and everyone seemed super happy and excited about what was going on. That was probably my favorite part. [Valentine’s Day] serves as a good break from the academic stress and pressure. It’s necessary for us to forget about all that stuff and have fun as the kids that we are. Events like this can serve as the relief that we all need from time to time.”
Sarah Bae ’26, Blue Key Head:
“Valentine’s Day is one of the more unique things that [Blue Key Heads] do. This Valentine’s Day, we just woke up at 6:30 and then went to Commons and decorated, and we each had an extravaganza. Jack did push-ups. Will [Ware ’26] did singing or serenading people. Maddie [Greenwood ’26] did caricatures. Frank [Hu ’26] did Lady and the Tramp with Twizzlers. Maya [Clark ’26] did a wheel. Malcolm did poetry, and Cade [Rutkoske ’26] did dances. Me and my roommate and fellow Blue Key Head [Maty Bah ’26], did a first date type thing. We had people matchmake each other, and then sat them down and matchmade them.”
