Girls Lacrosse Claims Prep Cup Title With Statement Weekend

This past weekend, Girls Lacrosse delivered a dominant performance at the Prep Cup tournament, securing three consecutive wins and claiming the championship. The team opened with a strong showing against Holy Child on Saturday and carried their momentum through two tough matchups on Sunday against Dexter Southfield and Sacred Heart Greenwich.

Against Holy Child, the team set the tone for the weekend with aggressive defense and quick ball movement, building confidence and cohesion early on. Ashley Dimnaku ’28, credited the team’s relentless work across the field as the key to its success.

“In the Prep Cup, we performed extremely well. We were working relentlessly all over the field, causing turnovers on our defensive end and in transition. Our strong defense was impenetrable and provided more opportunities on our offensive end,” said Dimnaku

According to Dimnaku, the team’s final match against Sacred Heart Greenwich, ranked tenth in the nation, was the highlight of the weekend.

“I believe the game against Sacred Heart Greenwich was the climax of the weekend. Beating the number ten team ranked in the nation proved how strong we are,” said Dimnaku.

The team’s leadership, especially from Co-Captains Lauren Herlihy ’25, Neicia Smith ’25, and Charley Drouin ’25, played a major role in the team’s success.

“They were leaders and all threats on the offensive end. The tournament showed that we’ve grown through the season because both our defense and our offense were more stable, more effective, and more creative,” said Dimnaku.

She also noted how much the team has developed over the course of the spring, both technically and mentally.

“The tournament showed that we have grown through the season because both our defense and our offense were more stable, more effective, and more creative,” said Dimnaku.

The Prep Cup championship marked a powerful end to the season for Girls Lacrosse, demonstrating their strength, unity, and continued improvement as a team.
